(Pope Leo XIII)
But, when necessity compels, not those only who are invested with power of rule are bound to safeguard the integrity of faith, but, as St. Thomas maintains: "Each one is under obligation to show forth his faith, either to instruct and encourage others of the faithful, or to repel the attacks of unbelievers.''[12] To recoil before an enemy, or to keep silence when from all sides such clamors are raised against truth, is the part of a man either devoid of character or who entertains doubt as to the truth of what he professes to believe. In both cases such mode of behaving is base and is insulting to God, and both are incompatible with the salvation of mankind. This kind of conduct is profitable only to the enemies of the faith, for nothing emboldens the wicked so greatly as the lack of courage on the part of the good. Capitalism is outgrowth of Enlightment thinking and Protestantism, esp Calvinism. You have some "trads' that try to argue for it by twisting and turning Papal writings, etc. Read John Medaille, Belloc for starters and also Encyclicals Rerum Novarum, Quag.Ann. of Pius XI. Belloc makes good arguement in his Heresies about the Calvinistic/Protestant link to Capitalism.E.Michael Jones touches on it in podcast Agents of Influence.
To try to embrace capitalism as it stands and operates in last 400 yrs, is to embrace a unCatholic worldview.
Distributism actually takes into account the fallen nature of man and its consequences that the "hidden hand" of the market does not address. A good CD if you are interested:
-Joseph Pearce at Chesterton Society 2007
-Fr.Mcnabb and back to land movement in 2005 or 2006 from Voice of Catholci radio (I ordered this and enjoy it in car, it was not archived anymore on main stire, but had to request it from bookstore).
To me, capitalism is an open door to greed, a Enlightment solution to Enlightment socialism and the "me" culture brought on by Protestant revolt. hence, the greed aspect of it.
ANother good article:

I am reading now Ethics and National Economy by Fr. Heinrich Pesch, the fowrad makes a good mincemeat out of "Austrian economics" and certain Catholics that openly embrace and promote it-some that are now paid staffers at Lew Rockwell (good site BTW for articles on Govt fascism and NWO).
