John Médaille: I am proud to announce the publication of my book, The Vocation of Business: Social Justice in the Marketplace, by Continuum International. The overriding theme of this book is that the original unity of distributive and corrective justice that prevailed in both economics and moral discourse until the 16th and seventeenth centuries was shattered by the rise of an individualistic capitalism that relied on corrective justice (justice in exchange) alone. But an economics that lacks a distributive pr

REFLECTIONS FROM CATHOLIC REGULAR GUY

REFLECTIONS FROM CATHOLIC REGULAR GUY (aka, your humble director)-7/20/09

From time to time, I would like to offer these refelctions from me, a regular Catholic guy.I have no award winning books to sell, I don't have my blogs linked all over the web.I don't get fawned over, nor articles in Catholic sites.Just a regular guy will nothing to sell and little likliehood of making a buck. This is posted at DP site, but is my own $0.02 of thoughts, sometimes touching on Distributism or related topics.

1.Chris Ferrera-recently joined in the attack (1) on sexologist-in-his-own-mind Christopher West. This West fellow wraps up his own apparent deviance in TOB (Theology of the Body), priate reflections by Pope JP2. Though Ferrera is right about the perverse and Neoctholicism, he himself is far from reporach. When Neocon draling Sarah Palin hit the big time, Ferrera was gaga over her.Whole articles were written by Ferrera about how wodnerful she was (do a search at Fatima.org or in particular, The Remnant). Never mind she supported abortion ,gay "rights" or a host of socialist Govt programs.Never mind she is a feminist. No, Ferrera would "hold his nose" and yet again enable the GOP as they march a little slower then the Dems to Apocalypse.Holding you nose I guess is somehow a excuse for a yellow strip in ones back and the middle of the road.Ferrera is articulate, but often loses my attention in his not so hidden message that he is holy than thou art, far from Trad then most.he folds easily under GOP enabling.

2.Pope's new Encyclical CARITAS IN VERITATE- have not read all of it yet, but it seems to support previous encyclicals such as Rerun Novarum, QA, etc…yet some like Alex Jones see Pope's message as a plea for One World Order. Other Trads see it as an attack on the Americanist/Capitalist pillars. For "traditionalists" and "conservatives" unacceptable.Thoguhts, like much of post-V2, may not be the strong and clear lingo we used to enjoy, but he is the Pope, lets be a bit open minded.Robert Sungenis and others have apparently chose to do so, good idea.Jones, right often, but watch this guy, he see not the fact that the Catholic Church is Christ and vice versa, no separations.
3. Traditionalists and economics-this could be a looong article, if not a whole book, but suffice to say, the Trad House is a divided one. Many think in 2 dimensions, that if you are not a capitalist, you must be a socialist.Wave the flag or you must want Al Qaeuda..or something.Even the forum, Fisheaters, is replete with supporters of Capitalism.Like George Orwell's 1984, of course, the meaing has morphed into meaning "own your OWn business or/and property"-a far cry from what it really is, understood by Belloc, Popes, etc…that it is a slave system to get the majority off the farms, into factories and large cities, wehre your whole life and well being is dependany on hudge/gugde-Chesterton's description of Big Govt, Big Business. Both rely and help each other out……of course I can compete w/Walmart, I can easily supply. Manufacture 10-20 sq feet of merchandise…………of course, plus work out contracts with "independent" Chinese businessmen for cheap and decrepit factories in Marxist China…note, PLA(Peoples Liberation Army) is largely behind the Chinesse "free" market. These Trads decry, rightly, the Marxism and heavy hand of China, but then have no problems defeinding ChinaMart and others like them. They actually think it is rather nuts you and I may want to be self-sufficient and acutally grow/manufacture things here in the USA.Best instead to elect Palin, who at least knows where Russia is, to continue supporting Marxism with our whole manufacturing base, hence continuing the need to interfere all over the world.Conservatives, just don’t rock the boat and don't make any real substantive changes at all.Trads often will reluctantly say "my country, wrong or right", hoist a US flag in church, but never, ever actually encourage Distributism and a Catholic community! Come on now, keep working for others, buy Chinese, but belabor the latest Obama move, his socialism and how far one has to drive to Latin Mass.A real disconnect between belief and everyday practice. The posters at Fisheaters now are actually drudging the bottom of the barrel but calumny against Belloc (he supported the French revolution) and Chesterton (socialist).they never see the conenction between French revolution and the connections w/capitalism and destruction of the very communities Distributists want to save or restore.George Orwell, call your office.Liberal Catholic support Catholic action, but would have a watered down NO Mass and socialism…protest the death penalty, but forget restoring true Tradition and the TLM, plus Catholic communities.Cannot have the Empire and Catholic Order. Cannot have it with capitalism, which is individualistic and greed, cannot do it with nationalism, cannot have it with flag waving or the 2 Big Box Parties now in control……..aall want Catholics, but in control to money making and power, for the temporal ends they want.Sadly, too many are falling for it, inc those in the Trad and Conservative (what they want to conserve is not usually good and never advances anything) Houses.
Again, this is my off the cuff $0.02, take it, leave it, move on……my own personal thoughts….
